The challenge

This Cadboro Bay property sits downhill from surrounding lots, with a large volume of surface and subsurface water naturally flowing toward the home. The backyard struggled with excess water, poor drainage, and limited usable space. Access to the rear yard was also extremely restricted, making material delivery a major logistical challenge.

In addition, the front of the property required structural improvements and a driveway upgrade to better manage grades and improve overall function and appearance.

Our solution

The project focused on controlling water before it could reach the house. We designed and installed a comprehensive drainage system concealed beneath the patio and behind the retaining wall. This system intercepts and redirects water away from the structure, protecting both the landscape and the foundation.

Because of limited access, all materials for the backyard were carefully transported by bucket, with over 16 tons moved through the property without disturbing surrounding areas. Structural retaining walls and hardscape elements were then installed to create a functional, durable, and visually cohesive outdoor space.

The result
