Commercial Landscape
We installed this commercial landscape on Salt Spring island with a tight time window
Commercial Landscape & Drainage Project in Ganges
Client: BC Housing
Location: Ganges, Salt Spring Island
Project Type: Commercial excavation, drainage, and landscape installation
The challenge
This was a large-scale commercial project with firm deadlines and no margin for delays. The site required extensive earthmoving, carefully planned drainage, fencing coordination, and landscape installation, all while keeping the project on schedule.
Soil management was a major factor. Over 500 tons of material needed to be brought in, moved, shaped, and compacted across the site. At the same time, drainage had to be engineered to prevent washout and erosion, especially given Salt Spring Island’s rainfall patterns and site exposure.
Planting also had to be timed precisely so native species could establish successfully without stress or failure.
Our solution
We handled the excavation and site shaping from the ground up, coordinating drainage pathways to control runoff and protect the finished landscape. Drainage solutions were designed to manage surface water and prevent erosion across the site, not just at isolated problem areas.
Native plantings were installed strategically and supported with a properly designed irrigation system to ensure healthy establishment. This allowed planting to occur at the right time while still meeting BC Housing’s schedule requirements.
Close coordination, experienced site management, and realistic planning were key to keeping this project on track.
Scope of work
-
- Large-scale excavation and grading
- Installation and movement of over 500 tons of soil
- Drainage planning and erosion control
- Washout prevention and site stabilization
- Fencing coordination
- Native plant installation
- Irrigation system installation to support plant establishment
The result
The completed site met BC Housing’s timelines while delivering a stable, functional, and sustainable landscape. Drainage and erosion concerns were addressed at a site-wide level, and native plantings were installed under conditions that allowed them to thrive long term.
This project demonstrates our ability to manage complex commercial landscapes, coordinate multiple scopes of work, and deliver reliable results under strict deadlines, even on Gulf Island sites with logistical challenges.
