Oak Bay Paver Driveway

We replaced an old concrete driveway in an Oak Bay neighborhood

Paver Driveway & Front Walkway Installation in Oak Bay

Location: Monterey Avenue, Oak Bay
Project Budget: $15,000 – $20,000

The challenge

This Oak Bay property had an aging concrete driveway that was cracked, uneven, and holding water underneath. Poor drainage below the slab was starting to cause surface issues and made the front approach to the home feel tired and uninviting. The homeowners wanted a cleaner look, better drainage, and a driveway that would actually hold up to West Coast weather.

They also wanted a clear, welcoming path from the street to the front door that tied in visually with the new driveway.

Our solution

We started by fully removing the existing concrete driveway and addressing the drainage problems below it. Proper base preparation was critical here, especially given Oak Bay’s soil conditions and seasonal rainfall.

Once the base and drainage were corrected, we installed a new paver driveway and a matching paver walkway leading from the street to the front entrance. The design focused on clean lines, strong contrast, and long-term durability, not shortcuts.

The finished result improved curb appeal immediately while also solving the underlying drainage issues that caused the original driveway to fail.

Scope of work

    • Removal and disposal of existing concrete driveway
    • Excavation and correction of drainage issues beneath the driveway
    • Proper base preparation designed for vehicle loads and wet conditions
    • Installation of a new paver driveway
    • Installation of a paver pathway from the street to the front door
    • Application of polymeric sand to lock pavers in place and prevent weed growth

Materials used

    • Newstone Somerset Standards pavers
    • Charcoal border for contrast and edge definition
    • Black polymeric sand for durability and a clean, finished look

The result

This Monterey Avenue project is a great example of how a paver driveway does more than change appearances. By fixing drainage first and building the driveway properly from the base up, the homeowners now have a surface that looks sharp, drains correctly, and will perform for years.

The added paver walkway also improved daily use and created a much more polished front-yard experience.
