Paver Driveway Installation in Greater Victoria & the Saanich Peninsula
A driveway does more than get you from the street to your garage. It’s one of the largest visual features on your property and a major contributor to curb appeal and property value. At Victoria Interlock, we design and install paver driveways that look great, handle real vehicle loads, and perform in West Coast weather. We install high-quality pavers from Belgard and Newstone designed specifically for driveways.
We install paver driveways throughout Greater Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula, including Victoria, Oak Bay, Saanich, Sidney, Brentwood Bay, Saanichton, Colwood, Langford, and surrounding areas. Every driveway is planned around drainage, access, slope, and long-term durability, not shortcuts.
Why homeowners choose paver driveways
In our experience, many clients contact us after dealing with cracked concrete, deteriorating asphalt, or a failing paver driveway that was never installed properly.
Paver driveways offer several advantages:
-
- Strong curb appeal and design flexibility
- No large slabs that crack when the ground moves
- Easier repairs if settlement ever occurs
- Better performance in wet climates
- Long service life when built correctly
When installed to proper standards, a paver driveway is a long-term upgrade, not a maintenance headache.

We've designed and built some stunning paver driveways In Victoria, BC
Built for load, drainage, and West Coast weather
Driveways are very different from patios or walkways. They must handle vehicle weight, turning forces, and constant exposure to rain.
On Vancouver Island, poor drainage and shallow soils make base preparation critical. We excavate deeper, build engineered base layers, and manage water movement beneath the driveway so it doesn’t soften or shift over time.
If the base fails, the driveway fails. That’s why we design every paver driveway to handle load and water from day one.
ICPI-certified paver driveway installation
Victoria Interlock is an ICPI certified installer. That matters, especially for driveways.
ICPI standards cover excavation depth, base materials, compaction, edge restraint, slope, and laying patterns designed for vehicular use. Many failed paver driveways we’re asked to fix were never built to these standards.
Our certification ensures your driveway is installed using proven methods that prioritize strength, stability, and long-term performance.
Replacing old or failed driveways
Many of our paver driveway projects start with removal of an old concrete driveway that is cracked or otherwise deteriorating.
We replace:
-
- Cracked or heaving concrete driveways
- Failing asphalt surfaces
- Sunken or spreading paver driveways
- Driveways with poor drainage underneath
In most cases, the issue isn’t the surface material, it’s what’s below it. We remove the old materials, rebuild the base properly, and install the new driveway so the same problems don’t return.

Paver driveway design options
Paver driveways offer far more design flexibility than concrete or asphalt. We help clients choose layouts that suit both their home and how the driveway is used.
Design options include:
-
- Load-rated patterns like herringbone
- Contrasting borders and soldier courses
- Accent bands or inlays
- Straight or curved driveway layouts
- Integration with walkways and front entries
- Accent and safety smart lighting solutions
- Polymeric sand and edge restraint systems
The goal is a driveway that feels intentional and complements the rest of the property.
Permeable paver driveways
In areas with heavy rainfall or drainage concerns, permeable paver driveways can be an excellent option.
Permeable systems allow water to move through the surface and into a specially designed base, reducing runoff and surface pooling. In some situations, they can help manage stormwater directly on site.
We’ll assess whether a permeable system makes sense for your property based on soil conditions, slope, and usage.
Questions About Paver Driveways?
If you have questions about paver driveways we have likely answered them here.
Are paver driveways strong enough for vehicles?
Yes, when they’re installed correctly. A properly built paver driveway uses load-rated pavers, a deeper engineered base, and the correct laying pattern, typically a herringbone layout. When installed to ICPI standards, paver driveways easily handle cars, trucks, and daily use.
Why do paver driveways fail?
In our experience, failures almost always come down to poor base preparation or drainage, not the pavers themselves. Shallow excavation, inadequate compaction, missing edge restraints, or poor water management can all lead to sinking or spreading over time. That’s why driveway installations require a very different approach than patios or walkways.
How do paver driveways handle Vancouver Island’s wet climate?
Paver driveways perform very well in wet conditions when drainage is planned properly. Water can move through the joints and away from the surface, reducing pooling and freeze-thaw stress. In some cases, permeable paver systems are an excellent option for managing runoff on site.
What is a permeable paver driveway?
A permeable paver driveway is designed to allow water to pass through the surface and into a specially engineered base below. This helps manage stormwater, reduce surface runoff, and improve drainage. Not every property is suitable for permeable systems, but they can be a great solution in the right conditions.
Is a paver driveway better than concrete?
Paver driveways offer more flexibility than concrete. Instead of cracking when the ground shifts, pavers can move slightly and be reset if needed. They also offer more design options and easier long-term repairs. Concrete can work, but once it cracks, repairs are usually permanent and visible.
How long does a paver driveway installation take?
Most paver driveway installations take one to two weeks, depending on size, access, weather, and site conditions. Driveways that require demolition of old concrete, additional drainage, or retaining walls may take longer. We’ll outline realistic timelines during your consultation.
Do paver driveways require a lot of maintenance?
Paver driveways are relatively low maintenance. Occasional sweeping, rinsing, and joint sand touch-ups are usually all that’s needed. Polymeric sand helps lock the joints and reduce weed growth. If a section ever settles, individual pavers can be lifted and reset without replacing the entire driveway.
Can you replace my existing concrete or asphalt driveway?
Yes. Many of our paver driveway projects involve removing cracked concrete, failing asphalt, or poorly installed pavers. We remove the old materials, rebuild the base properly, address drainage issues, and install the new driveway so the same problems don’t return.
